[more+]Jeffrey Moose Gallery is proud to welcome sculptor Dick Strom and painter Sophie Frieda for our Spring exhibition, April and May 2026. Receptions will be held on First Friday, April 3rd and First Friday, May 1st from 6 to 8 PM. A Facebook Livestream will happen previous to the April event from roughly 5:20-5:40.
Dick Strom was born and raised in West Port Madison on Bainbridge Island, learning welding and metal working as a teenager. His family founded Modern Collision auto repair business in 1974. He attended High School on Bainbridge and then spent three years in the US Marine Corps. His sculptures and commissioned works have graced the Island for decades. Strom works both representationally and abstractly, creating fanciful animals and figures with the same ease as he creates abstract compositions from gears, wheels, chains and just about any type of scrap steel. Most often sited outside, Strom’s sculptures are quite comfortable both in landscape and in homes. Self taught and modest, he often demurs when called an artist.
Sophie Frieda, a classically trained painter of British origin, concentrates on plant life, some local and some tropical. She works primarily in oil on canvas, focusing tightly on foliage and flowers, creating intimate views from the perspective of a rabbit or bird. Her work is refined and precise, created with fine strokes and accurate color yet not cold and photographic. A sort of sympathetic realism thats immediately appealing. Her education includes a BA from Central St Martins college in London and another BA Honors Degree from California College of the Arts
In San Francisco. Her work has been shown at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, BIMA, Bloedel Reserve as well as in local galleries and is held in collections in the UK, France, Australia, Washington state, California, Texas, D.C. and Connecticut.

Talks are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM. Enjoy pizza and beer, and stay abreast of current knowledge. Open Mic Science, A Bainbridge Science Café, is based on the principles of Cafe Scientifique and is committed to the public understanding of science. For May we will be meeting at the Lynwood Theatre.
For May, Dr. Fred Ramsdell will discuss the work that resulted in the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This will involve the basic mechanisms by which our immune system responds to pathogens without, in most cases, attacking our own tissues - as well as the implications of this work for the development of a new therapeutic paradigm.

The exhibit explores life, illness, and death on Bainbridge Island between 1900 and 1950. From discussion of early pioneer doctors to the establishment of clinics and medical plans, Dearly Departed documents 50 years of changing conditions on our Island that affected residents throughout their lives. From childbirth to funeral practices, the exhibit addresses difficult living conditions, sparse access to frontier medicine, and Bainbridge Island’s sometimes violent past through the sharing of stories alongside archival evidence.
Join us as we dive into Bainbridge Island’s medical history and discover unexpected causes of death, hazardous working environments, and our Island’s historic cemeteries.
The exhibit will run May - December 2026.

[more+]A shokado bento box is designed to tell a story. In this class, we'll use ingredients and flavors that reflect the Japanese immigration experience here in the Pacific Northwest and the ancient washoku food traditions that traveled the world with those Nikkei wherever they settled.
Our May menu includes Japanese classics, plus flavors and ingredients significant to Bainbridge Island’s Japanese history. Salmon, strawberries, cherry blossoms, and a yakitori-style teriyaki sauce all make an appearance.
Practical techniques include rolling a Japanese omelette, folding Filipino lumpia, making onigiri, and cutting decorative spring vegetables. As in all proper shokado bento boxes, we'll experience all five cooking methods of traditional Japanese cuisine: yakimono, agemono, mushimono, nimono, and namamono.
On the menu
Teriyaki chicken
Cherry blossom onigiri (rice balls)
Dashimaki (delicate rolled omelets)
Lumpia (pork and cabbage spring rolls)
Salmon Inarizushi (stuffed aburaage pockets)
Seasonal bento vegetables and pickles

Our May menu includes Japanese classics, plus flavors and ingredients significant to Bainbridge Island’s Japanese history. Salmon, strawberries, cherry blossoms, and a yakitori-style teriyaki sauce all make an appearance.
Practical techniques include rolling a Japanese omelette, folding Filipino lumpia, making onigiri, and cutting decorative spring vegetables. As in all proper shokado bento boxes, we'll experience all five cooking methods of traditional Japanese cuisine: yakimono, agemono, mushimono, nimono, and namamono.
On the menu
Teriyaki chicken
Cherry blossom onigiri (rice balls)
Dashimaki (delicate rolled omelets)
Lumpia (pork and cabbage spring rolls)
Salmon Inarizushi (stuffed aburaage pockets)
Seasonal bento vegetables and pickles
